HeartCode BLS (Hybrid)
The American Heart Association HeartCode BLS course is a blended learning program designed for healthcare professionals and first responders who need to perform high-quality CPR and respond to life-threatening emergencies. The course combines online learning completed at your own pace with an in-person hands-on skills session with an AHA instructor.
Is This HeartCode BLS Course Right for Me?

A healthcare student preparing for clinicals or entering a healthcare profession

Someone who prefers the flexibility of completing the course content online before attending an in-person skills session
How Does HeartCode BLS Work?
HeartCode BLS is completed in two parts:
1. Online Course
Complete the American Heart Association's HeartCode BLS online course at your own pace. The online portion includes interactive lessons, learning activities, and knowledge assessments.
2. In-Person Skills Session
After completing the online portion, attend a hands-on skills session with an AHA instructor. You will demonstrate your CPR and BLS skills and receive feedback from your instructor.
What You'll Learn
The HeartCode BLS course focuses on recognizing and responding to life-threatening emergencies and performing high-quality CPR as part of an effective team. Training includes adults, children, and infants.
Topics include:
Chain of Survival
High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
Adult, child, and infant BLS algorithms
Two-rescuer CPR
AED use for adults, children, and infants
Pocket mask and bag-mask ventilation
Team dynamics and high-performance resuscitation
Relief of choking in adults, children, and infants
Recognition and response to opioid-associated emergencies
What to Bring to Your Skills Session
After completing the online HeartCode BLS course, bring your AHA HeartCode BLS Certificate of Completion to your in-person skills session. You must complete the online portion before attending the hands-on session.
Upon successful completion of both the online course and in-person skills session, you will receive an official American Heart Association BLS certification card (eCard), valid for two years.
